77 Ultra+ K5 Blazer Nuke Motor Division, 2025

The inaugural build for 2025 represents the ultimate evolution of Chevrolet's legendary K5 Blazer. This 1977 model, chosen specifically for its perfect balance of vintage character and refined engineering, has undergone a meticulous four-year transformation into something extraordinary.

THE FOUNDATION Originally delivered to Utah in 1977, this Cheyenne-trimmed K5 spent four decades conquering the Rocky Mountains. When acquired in 2021, it still retained its original 400 SBC and TH350/NP203 drivetrain - a testament to Chevrolet's engineering. But we envisioned something greater.

Our build began with a complete disassembly - no bolt left unturned. While preserving much of the original sheet metal, strategic modernization included a fresh hood, radiator support, tailgate, and rocker panels. Every component was stripped, sandblasted, and treated to show-quality powder coating.

Why a '77? Because it represents the sweet spot of K5 evolution. The platform had matured beyond early teething issues but hadn't yet surrendered to the complexities of later years. You get the best of both worlds - refined comfort with mechanical purity. The improved ergonomics, optimal chassis geometry, and superior body mounting create the perfect foundation for our modern upgrades.

THE POWERPLANT At the heart of this build sits a state-of-the-art LS3 crate engine, enhanced with restomodder DELS3 modifications for that perfect vintage aesthetic. But what truly sets this powertrain apart is its brain - the Motec M130 ECU. This isn't just an engine controller; it's a comprehensive management system capable of over 400 million calculations per second, offering unprecedented precision and adaptability.

Paired with our PDM30 power distribution module, the electrical system eliminates traditional fuse boxes and relay panels in favor of advanced solid-state switching with built-in protection and monitoring. The transmission is equally sophisticated - a 6L90 HD unit controlled by a Powertrain Control Solutions TCM that learns and adapts to driving conditions in real-time, delivering precisely optimized shifts through sophisticated algorithms and CAN bus integration with the Motec system.

Power flows through a fully rebuilt NP205 transfer case, with every critical connection secured by ARP 12-point fasteners - cold-forged and thread-rolled to achieve tensile strengths exceeding 200,000 psi. Because in the pursuit of perfection, even the smallest details matter.

CHASSIS AND CONTROL The Ultra+ K5's handling has been transformed through Off Road Design's crossover steering system, eliminating the compromises of the factory Y-link design. This sophisticated setup delivers superior steering angles without binding, enhanced ground clearance, and dramatically improved feedback.

Stopping power comes from a modern four-wheel disc brake conversion, replacing the original rear drums with high-performance discs. The system is perfectly balanced through a modern proportioning valve and dual-reservoir master cylinder, delivering consistent, fade-free performance under all conditions.

This isn't just a restoration - it's a revolution in vintage trucking. Every component, every system, every detail has been carefully considered and optimized. The result is a machine that honors its heritage while delivering performance that surpasses many modern vehicles.
